    The Youth Astronomy
 Apprenticeship Program

The Youth Astronomy Apprenticeship program is an out-of-school time (OST) initiative that uses an astronomy apprenticeship model to promote learning in STEM disciplines among urban, underrepresented youth and their communities. YAA is the product of a collaboration among science education centers at MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research (MKI) and Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), Boston community-based Timothy Smith Network (TSN), and the Institute for Learning Innovation (ILI) as the outside evaluator.  The YAA project aims to develop a portfolio of tools and strategies for implementation of the YAA model, including curricula, training tools, support structure, and collaboration tools for implementation of this model.
